Eligibility

You are eligible for benefits if you work 30 or more hours per week. You may also enroll your eligible family members under certain plans you choose for yourself. Eligible family members include:

  • Your legally married spouse (spouse coverage rule applies)*
  • Your children who are your natural children, stepchildren, adopted children, or children for whom you have legal custody (age restrictions may apply). Disabled children age 26 or older who meet certain criteria may continue on your health coverage.

*Spouse coverage rule for Medical Plans: spouses are not eligible to enroll in the Simon Pearce Medical plan if they are eligible for coverage through their own employer.

When Coverage Begins

You must complete the enrollment process within 30 days of your date of hire. Coverage is effective on the first day of the month after hire date. If you fail to enroll on time you will NOT have benefits coverage (except for company-paid benefits). Changes made during Open Enrollment are effective at the start of the next calendar year.

Employees cannot make benefit changes during the year unless you have a qualifying event such as:

  • Marriage or divorce
  • Birth or adoption of a child
  • Child reaching the maximum age limit
  • Death of a spouse or child
  • Change in child custody
  • Change in coverage election made by our spouse during their employer’s
  • Open Enrollment period
  • You lose coverage under your spouse’s plan

To make changes to your benefit elections, you MUST contact Human Resources within 30 days of the Qualifying Event (including newborns). Be prepared to show documentation of the event. If changes are not submitted on time, you must wait until the next Open Enrollment period.

Medical Plan Options

Simon Pearce is pleased to offer you the choice of three (3) plan designs to all eligible employees who work 30 hours or more per week. Employee premium rates may vary based on Part-time (30-35 hours per week) and Full-time (35+ hours/week) status.

  • The Bronze Plan is a traditional plan that has co-pays and coinsurance with a higher annual deductible and lower premium.
  • The Silver Plan is a Qualified High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP) with a Health Savings Account (HSA) through the broader, national Cigna network. Simon Pearce will contribute to an HSA based upon the level of coverage chosen by each employee.
  • The Gold Plan offers a Health Reimbursement Account (HRA) which allows you to use funds to pay for your deductible and coinsurance expenses. Pharmacy expenses cannot be paid with HRA funds. Simon Pearce will contribute to this HRA based upon the level of coverage chosen by each employee.

Employees who elect the Silver Plan will have a Health Savings Account (HSA). These employees may elect a Limited Purpose Flexible Spending Account, which can only be used for dental and vision expenses.  This IRS rule is in place to help avoid “double dipping” since the HSA can also be used for medical, dental and vision expenses.  For more information, please click on the links below.

Work United Resource Coordinator & Emergency Loan

Work United at Simon Pearce is a program dedicated to improving workplace productivity, retention, advancement, and financial stability for employees.  Too often, barriers such as childcare, reliable transportation and acute need for emergency financial assistance get in the way of continuous employment and derail good employees.  Work United helps to minimize these employment barriers by providing an onsite Resource Coordinator and an Emergency Loan Program.

What does a Resource Coordinator do?

Our Resource Coodinator, Pru Pease, is on-site and available to employees to help solve non-work related issues that cause personal and maybe family stress and get in the way of work. This is done primarily through understanding the issue(s), and the RC identifying and connecting the employee to appropriate resources. The RC is a Certified Information and Referral Specialist (CIRS) trained through Vermont 2-1-1 and in Bridges out of Poverty concepts. For needs requiring counseling, the RC refers employees to the employer’s Employee Assistance Program (EAP). Examples of issues the RC can help employees solve:

  • I’m moving and need to find childcare near our new home
  • I am two months late in my rent
  • I’m thinking about buying my first home – is there any help out there for down payments?
  • I just lost my license – how am I going to get to work?
  • I need help figuring out my medical bills
  • Debt collectors keep calling me at home and work – how can I stop them?
  • I am having problems with my benefits from the state
  • My son has a learning disability and I need help finding resources for him
  • My 12 year old car needs $1,500 worth of repairs
Is this confidential?

Meetings with employees are confidential unless an employee signs an authorization for the resource coordinator to advocate/speak on his/her behalf. RC does not get involved in work-related issues and will be direct such cases to management, Human Resources and/or EAP.
